Super Bowl Reviews

In 1999, I began a tradition of writing a description of the Super Bowl and the media hype surrounding it from a cultural, rather than a sporting, perspective. Unfortunately, I began that tradition by declaring that I would never watch the Super Bowl again, which did not do a lot for people's perception of my reliability when I wrote about it in 2000. However, in 2000, I got paid to write about it, for the Diamondback, so I'm sure you can understand why I had to break my promise: I needed seventeen bucks. Plus, it's football.

Even prostitute-solicitin' Atlanta Falcon Eugene Robinson couldn't make me want to watch the Super Bowl again. Fortunately, Robert Kahn made a convincing counterargument.

"Where were you for pivotal Week 7 of the NFL season?"

Lots of Ray Lewis jokes in this one.

If Jane Austen were titling this one, it'd be called Patriotism and the Patriots. I think we're all glad Jane Austen isn't involved here, though.

In which we learn that the Super Bowl can actually be not all that entertaining and still be fun.
